Maintenance Technologist Certification ProgramThe GAWP Maintenance Technologist (MT) Certification program is a voluntary certification program that follows similar license levels as the Association of Boards of Certification Plant Maintenance Technologist Certification. Once a Maintenance Technologist Certification is obtained, it can be renewed. Every Maintenance Technologist License expires on June 30th of every odd year. Learn more about certification and renewal requirements below. CERTIFICATION STEPSTo obtain an initial Maintenance Technologist certification, please follow these steps. STEP 1Determine the level of certification you need The GAWP Maintenance Technologist (MT) Certification follows the similar levels as the Association of Boards of Certification Plant Maintenance Technologist Certification and acknowledges full reciprocity. The GAWP Maintenance Technologist program requires that everyone start at the entry level (Class 3). Once a Class 3 certification is obtained, the next step is a Class 2, followed by the final certification level, Class 1.
STEP 2Obtain Experience The GAWP Maintenance Technologist program requires that applicants have experience in actual hands-on maintenance prior to taking the examination. The amount of required experience is indicated below for each level of certification.
The applicant will be required to document work history that includes the type of work performed and the approximate dates of employment. STEP 3Obtain Training The program requires that applicants complete course work prior to taking an exam. This course work must include Maintenance Technologist training. GWWI provides a number of courses that are approved for the Maintenance Technologist Certification.
STEP 4Take and Pass the GAWP Maintenance Technologist Certification Exam In addition, the Class 3, Class 2, and Class 1 exams are offered through Applied Measurement Professionals, Inc. (AMP). The applicant can register for the AMP exam online or by calling 913-859-4600. All exams are proctored, computer-based exams and are given at many testing centers throughout Georgia and the United States. Check the website for exam schedules and the exam location nearest to you (www.goamp.com). STEP 5Apply to the GAWP Maintenance Technologist Certification Program Once a passing score on the certification exam has been achieved, the applicant can apply for certification online. The applicant must fill out the application and provide documented proof that steps 1–4 have been completed. Please note that your application may take up to 2–3 weeks to process. RENEWAL STEPSAll GAWP Maintenance Technologist Certifications expire on June 30 of every odd year. Renewal requirements must be met prior to the deadline. STEP 1Obtain TrainingPrior to the deadline, Maintenance Technologists must obtain the required number of continuing education training hours for the level of certification that they currently have. For renewal, half of your renewal points may come from ANY Water/Wastewater Board Secretary of State approved training (including conferences) and half of your points must come from classes that are specifically approved for the Maintenance Technologist renewal. GWWI has several courses that are approved for the Maintenance Technologist renewal. If you were issued a certification during the current renewal cycle, the renewal application, and renewal fees are still required even if no additional CE points are needed. Review your certificate for the expiration date. You must renew your certificate by the stated expiration date, or your license will lapsed. Any licenses that are lapsed 90 days past date of renewal will be revoked.
STEP 2Submit Appropriate Application for Maintenance Technologist Renewal or ReinstatementGo to the GWWI Maintenance Technologist tab and select the appropriate renewal or reinstatement application from the dropdown menu. You will be charged a fee based on your selection. You must pay your fees by credit card online. Please note that your application may take up to 2–3 weeks to process. |
